The Senior Data Scientist extracts and analyzes data/information from internal and public access databases and documents for toxicological assessment. They are expected to have a working knowledge of biology, biochemistry, and/or toxicology. They create and develop databases for extracted data for internal and external use, including curation and data cleanup. They are expected to develop workflows to automate repeat tasks involved in data extraction and curation. They are expected to lead aspects of data analysis, including data curation, data management, data storage, and preparation for/conducting analyses. Dissemination of information needed by U.S. governmental committees and regulatory agencies, stakeholder working groups, peer review panels, and test method developers is an essential part of this position. Likewise, preparation of scientific and technical documents such as presentations, reports, workshop summaries, manuscripts, and operating procedures are core components of this position. The Senior Data Scientist will work in a team environment where cooperation and a professional attitude are essential. Other duties will be assigned as needed.

• M.S. in related scientific field with at least 3 years post-degree experience in data science, bioinformatics, computational biology/toxicology, or biostatistics
• Demonstrated proficiency in data extraction and data curation
• Proficiency in data processing languages/platforms such as Python, R, and/or KNIME
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of scientific databases such as EPA’s CompTox Chemicals Dashboard and OECD eChemPortal
• Strong experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to function well independently and in a team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

• Proficiency with Linux OS
• Proficiency in the use of git
• Strong technical editing writing and editing skills
• Data science certification (e.g. Harvard, Georgetown, IBM, Coursera)
• Familiarity with SQL and database managers
• Familiarity with contract research and regulatory testing requirements

A successful team member will be a service-oriented team player who is able to work on a variety of projects within the area of pharmacology and toxicology. They will work cooperatively with diverse teams and communicate their science effectively to non-technical clients. This position is based in RTP, NC and is eligible for remote work in the U.S.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
